As summer’s relentless heat gives way to the crisp air and golden light of autumn, Sedona transforms. Our area’s iconic red rocks are dusted with the vibrant yellows and oranges of changing leaves, making for gorgeous hikes and excellent photography opportunities. This fall, come embrace the outdoors and each other on a romantic getaway to Sedona, with the Arabella Hotel as your perfect starting point.
Fall Adventures for Two in Sedona
Autumn’s refreshing weather is perfect for outdoor activities, and the seasonal colors add a layer of beauty to every experience. Here are some of our favorite ways to spend our precious time together.
Hike Through Oak Creek Canyon
Often called the smaller cousin of the Grand Canyon, Oak Creek Canyon is spectacular in the fall. The canyon floor comes alive with the brilliant gold of changing maple, oak, and sycamore trees, creating a striking contrast against the red canyon walls and the clear waters of Oak Creek.
We love the West Fork Trail for a fairly effortless, but totally gratifying, romantic walk. This relatively flat and easy trail follows the creek, requiring you to cross it multiple times over stepping stones. Pack a small picnic and find a secluded spot by the water to simply enjoy the moment together.
Savor the Flavors of the Verde Valley Wine Trail
Just a short, scenic drive from Sedona lies the Verde Valley, a burgeoning wine region that offers a delightful day trip for couples. Grab a sweater and your sunglasses and set off for a day of wine tastings on sun-drenched patios overlooking the rows of vines.
Stop into one (or a few) of the many distinctive wineries along the Verde Valley Wine Trail for a tasting experience or tour. Share a flight of award-winning Arizona wines, discover new varietals, and learn about the unique terroir that makes this region special. Have a little fun as you sip and get your passport stamped at each winery you visit, or download the wine trail app and check in along the way.
Stargaze Under Sedona’s Dark Skies
Sedona is an official International Dark Sky Community, meaning the city actively works to minimize light pollution. The result is an awe-inspiring, clear night sky made even better for stargazing by the crisp, dry air of autumn. Whether you’re bundled up together in the quiet of the wilderness or enjoying a cozy spot on the Arabella Hotel grounds, sharing a view of the Milky Way and distant constellations creates a magical, intimate experience. If you do care to venture out from the hotel, we suggest Red Rock State Park, with some of Sedona’s darkest skies and 286 acres in which to spread out.
Enjoy a Sunset to Remember
Sedona’s sunsets are legendary, and an essential experience while you’re here. From the Arabella, you’re just moments away from trails that lead to elevated vistas perfect for watching the day’s last light. Visit the postcard-perfect Red Rock Crossing, or Devil’s Bridge, which takes a bit more effort to get to, but is absolutely worth the exertion. Or, take it easy and simply retreat to our Sunset Vista for a private viewing party for two.
Discover Art and Culture in Tlaquepaque
Stroll through the charming, cobblestone pathways of the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village. Designed to look like a traditional Mexican village, it’s home to numerous art galleries, craft shops, and unique boutiques. It’s a wonderful place to wander without a plan, discovering beautiful art and perhaps finding the perfect souvenir to remember your trip together.
