This powerful landscape fuels a deep well of creativity that flows through the city’s world-class galleries, murals, and events near the Arabella Hotel.
Come with us for a snapshot of Sedona’s iconic galleries, the public art that colors its streets, and the key events that bring the creative community together.
A World of Art: Sedona’s Premier Galleries
Sedona is home to an astonishing number of art galleries—over 80 at last count—showcasing a diverse range of styles and mediums. Whether you are drawn to Southwestern bronze sculptures, contemporary paintings, or intricate handmade jewelry, we think you’ll find something that speaks to your soul.
Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village
Start your exploration of the Sedona art scene at the renowned Tlaquepaque. This enchanting village is designed to resemble a traditional Mexican town, with cobblestone paths, arched entryways, and vine-covered stucco walls for an immersive artistic experience.
Within Tlaquepaque, you’ll find a curated collection of galleries representing both local and international artists. We recommend Rowe Fine Art Gallery, known for its stunning wildlife sculptures and paintings, and the Creative Gateways, which displays breathtaking works of decorative and functional glass art.
Uptown Sedona
Uptown Sedona is just a short distance from Tlaquepaque, along State Route 179. We love to wile away an afternoon here, hopping from one fine art gallery to the next along this stretch. Check out the Goldstein Gallery, representing more than 50 noted local and regional artists across myriad styles and media, and Zonies Galleria, to find a locally made treasure to take home with you.
Local and Niche Galleries
Beyond the main hubs, Sedona is dotted with smaller, specialized galleries that offer a more intimate viewing experience. The Sedona Arts Center showcases local artists and offers workshops and classes for aspiring creatives. It’s a fantastic place to connect with the people behind the art and get a true sense of the local culture.
Art in the Open: Murals and Public Sculptures
Sedona itself is a canvas, with public art adding color and character to our streets and parks. As you explore, you’ll learn pieces of Sedona’s history, culture, and deep connection to the natural world. Developers have funded the city’s Art in Public Places program at no cost to taxpayers to dot the cityscape with sculptures, fine arts, and photography for all to enjoy.
Keep an eye out for sculptures of Native Americans, settlers, and local wildlife like coyotes and javelinas dotting the city’s roundabouts, each telling a story about the area’s heritage or wildlife. Colorful murals bring unexpected joy to public walkways and commercial buildings, often depicting scenes of the surrounding landscape or celebrating the community’s spirit.
A Celebration of Creativity: Annual Art Events
The Sedona art scene truly comes alive during its many festivals and events. These gatherings attract artists and art lovers from around the country, creating a dynamic atmosphere of celebration and commerce.
Sedona Arts Festival
Held every October, the Sedona Arts Festival is one of our region’s most anticipated events. For over three decades, this juried festival has brought more than 100 artists to the campus of Sedona Red Rock High School. If you’re in town that weekend, browse an incredible selection of ceramics, paintings, photography, jewelry, and more, and interact directly with the creators. Purchase a one-of-a-kind piece and support the artistic community. The festival’s proceeds also fund scholarships and art education programs, fostering the next generation of artists.
First Fridays
For a more regular dose of art, plan your visit around a “First Friday.” On the first Friday of every month, many of Sedona’s galleries host special evening receptions. From 5 to 8 p.m., you can enjoy a festive atmosphere with live music, artist demonstrations, and complimentary refreshments as you explore the latest exhibitions. It’s a social and engaging way to experience the Gallery District and Tlaquepaque.
An Artist’s Muse
Ultimately, the source of Sedona’s artistic energy is the land itself. The shifting light on the canyon walls, the brilliant blue sky, and the resilient desert flora provide endless inspiration. We hope you’ll come visit soon, and be just as inspired. Check out our special offers to make the most of your time at the Arabella. Need a suggestion of where to start your art tour? Just ask.
